Found a great item at a garage sale this weekend. It was new, unused and still in the original box. It's a 4 quart commercial chafing dish that uses the regular size cans of Sterno fuel. Great for preparing a meal when the power goes out. The best part was that it was only a couple of dollars (they generally sell for about $40 retail). The person it belonged to said she didn't need it and it was just taking up space.

Smoking deal buddy! Wish I'd beat you to it! I'm not sure how good these are for cooking anything more than soup's or stew's, But I'm sure they would work as a crock pot. As long as you keep the food semi warm,it should last as long as you can bear to eat it! I think you made the deal of the week.

Wow, that was a great deal, as well as a great idea--though I could eat some of my canned foods cold, I would naturally prefer them warmed up, and there are people around here that would be pickier than I am about things like that... :) I'll have to go looking for a deal of my own on one of those!

Warming up some canned goods like stews, soups or beans sure would be nice if the power goes out. My first thought was a little warm water to clean up with would also be great for my morale also! A friend of my wife that is in the catering business said these or similar type chafing dishes are absolutely the best for keeping stuff warm when you don't have electricity available for a crockpot. Thanks.

Great find! My brother is a chef and does catering on the side (don't they all?), so I've gotten a hand-me-down chaffing dish from him. It was a little dented and small for his catering jobs. Functionally perfect and perfectly sized for my family. Awesome for so many applications.

That's awesome! If I had a relative in the catering business I be hittin' them up for discards or what have you all the time. I look for deals all the time. My kids say I'm a "garage sale junkie". Thanks Wizard!
