Mrs. RW recently harvested a couple of rows of potatoes from the garden. She said it was comforting to know that she could at least grow a little something to eat. She usually grows a couple of different types of potatoes for variety. She's also starting to harvest a few ears of corn from the garden but usually tries to pick the ears of corn straight off the stalk before a meal.
Gardening is one of Mrs. RW's best survival skills.
Got potatoes from the garden?
Staying above the water line!

Those look like they will provide many a tasty meal.
Darn good skill, having a 'Green Thumb'. I wish I had it, the bugs and I used to tussle with each other years back in our 'greenhouse'. I was ready to nuke them from orbit, just to be sure, lol.
Fwiw, I used a 'dome' made of arched PVC pipes stuck in ground, and covered it with that ugly orange construction fence. Kept out the birds and cats (but not bugs) and still let in enough sunlight for plants to grow. If you live in cold regions, no way would temps allow this to happen, this is for hot sunny areas mainly.
Thanks again for post.
I'm going to have a good potato crop from square foot beds, but your longer Texas growing season makes me envious.

In colder climates, you almost have to have a cold frame or a greenhouse.
Bugs can still be a problem, even in the summer. Mrs. RW keeps a bird friendly environment around the yard and they seem to take care of most of the bugs.
Thanks anon.

Mrs. RW has a "small" garden that would fill up the average backyard. She also moves it to a different spot each year to keep from depleting the nutrients in the soil.
Spent some time last night gnawing on some fresh ears of corn from the garden...sure beats the canned variety!
Mrs. RW never ceases to amaze me when it comes to growing all kinds of plants and vegetables.
Thanks John.

Great looking potatoes, I have tried for two years and just have a hard time with them, mice get them when I use straw, they rot when I use dirt to hill them up. Anyway, love your site, keep up the good work
