Given the small size and light weight of this, it makes sense to me to add in a hiking kit for the pack (especially day hiking). To be used where space and lightweight equipment is a plus, and natural water sources allow you opportunities to use it. I draw the line at drinking out of sewers though, lol.

I would have to have it in My EDC so it is with me no matter what I'm up to. Whether it's hiking camping hunting or just out for a drive. Here in the desert water isn't the best quality when you can find it. It will live in a cargo pocket.

Having traveled to several third world countries, like Peru, India and Malaysia, I'm very familiar with the warning "don't drink the water". Being lightweight and low profile, this straw looks like a no-brainer to keep on hand when bottled water is nowhere to be found. Looks like it would store easily in a pants pocket or daypack. Great giveaway!

For preparedness this would make a excellent addition to mt EDC vest.
Clean water is the blood of life.
Would become part of my "Never leave home without it gear"

For traveling, when out of your area
water can be questionable if not horrid , would give great piece of mind.

For hiking, its compactness and weight make it perfect for EDC.

the Life Straw filter would work for me in any of your categories. I hike, camp, backpack, and snowshoe. I also travel between 10 and 125 miles daily. PLUS--I am a prepper. Honestly I do have purificaction tablets in all my gear but they can take quite some time to work. The straw filter would be a great addition to my backpacks, but if I only had one it would go in my EDC pack. Being away from home and my preps avery day is a concern especially if I have to deviate from my routs to get back home. I do carry water but if I were to experience some "disaster" and spend more than a couple days on my own trying to get home this straw filter would be just the ticket. I know where natural water is while I am traveling but sometimes the water is 5-10 miles away. Being able to use other water sources is a must. this straw filter would be the top addition to my EDC bag. Drinkable water to get home--that's ALL I need. thanks and keep up the info work. peace, Shadowfaxhound

For Hiking with Boy Scouts of America, its a great filter to use when hiking the back trails of the USA!!

Preparedness:
I live in hurricane territory and would add this to my hurricane prep in a Ziploc with antidiuretic and antidiarrheal OTC medicine just in case the local water gets contaminated.

I would use it for preparedness purposes. I am a stay at home mom, and have 5 kids. Last week it would have come in handy as one kid said, Mom this water tastes like soap. I want the drinking water, not the washing water. This was out of our water filtered fridge. So send one on over, our water in our home is not fit for toddlers! :)

I would use it for preparedness. I would place it in my go bag that I carry in my patrol vehicle. The county I patrol is over 5,000 square miles of high desert terrain. There is always the potential of being in a remote area for extended periods. We do have water sources that can be accessed and the lifestraw would allow for the use of the water for drinking.

Preparedness:

I'm a volunteer emergency responder. Not knowing where I may be needed, or for how long means that I can never be sure I can bring enough water with me.

This would be the perfect addition to my ARES / CERT gear to ensure that I have potable water available to me.

This is definitely something that I would throw in my pack for a hiking/backpacking trip. I always carry my Steripen, but it has limitations - it relies on battery power, and only works with clear water. It would be nice to have some sort of filter as well.

I can also see how this would be a great preparedness device. When not hiking, I would keep this with my emergency kit. Many of my camping and hiking stuff stays with my emergency kit - Steripen, firesteel, MSR stove, etc. and this would be a great addition.

This post was a good reminder that I need to add some sort of filtration system to my gear.

I would use this straw in my EDC buttpack. I travel 10-125 miles from home daily. I do carry water for 48 hours but the straw would be great for a longer emergency and secondary plans. It does not filter out all viruses but does filter bacteria to 7 logs and parasites to 3 logs. that WORKS for me in an emergency. thank you. shadowfax dog

traveling

Not much room in the truck with the wife and kids, so not having enough water on a trip has always worried me. Since my wife has to take frequent trips out of the area as well having the lifestraw would greatly increase my peace of mind.

Hiking

In my younger more 'stupid' days, I ran out of water on a long hike. Now, I carry enough water to make it almost 'not' fun to hike anywhere. Now that my kids are ready to start packing on their own WAY safer than needed is my motto.

I always carry a source of water with me when I am hiking. I live in Southern Nevada and hiking excursions can be a day in teh desert to a climb at Mt. Charleston. The rule of thumb being 2 is 1 and 1 is non make having a back up source to procure water a life saving item to the kit. Getting lost in an area like Red Rock canyon for instance and running out of water would not be life threating if you coudl find your bearings but the pools of water in the area are not the safest in teh world to drink. Having The LifeStraw on hand would be a great item to help secure valuable drinking water. In the case lowering the waterline and raising my survival rate.

I want this mostly for travel. When I visit relatives in the Big City ... or go to conferences ... I know that they are totally dependent on city water. Grid down - water gone.

But the swimming pool, as well as a couple waterway, would still be there. And this would fit in my carry on, unlike a Berkey!
