Preppin’ Tip – Communications
Designate an emergency contact person outside your local area. It is usually easier to call long distance than locally after a disaster. Ask a family member or friend outside your local area to be your family’s designated contact in the event of an emergency. Make sure everyone in the family has the contact's phone number. During an emergency, you can call your designated emergency contact and let other family members know how you’re doing and where you are presently.
Preppin’ Tip – Pets
One teaspoon of regular vinegar in one quart of water added to their drinking water will help keep your dogs and cats free of fleas and ticks.
Preppin’ Tip – Food Storage
Mix a teaspoon of baking soda in your grated cheese. Thoroughly mix the baking soda and grated cheese before freezing. Your cheese will not stick together when being stored in the freezer.
Preppin’ Tip – Tools
Cut a slit in a piece of one inch PVC pipe and slide it over the flange (this is the part where you put your foot) on your shovel, cutting the length to match the flange on your shovel. This will save some wear and tear on your foot.
Preppin’ Tip – Emergency Equipment Repairs
If the antenna on your emergency radio becomes broken, simply use a metal tape measure (the one like carpenters use) and attach it to the base of the antenna on your radio with a jumper wire with alligator clips on each end.

Thanks for some more great tips to file away! That tip for pets with the vinegar is something I had never heard of, and would be helpful if there were an emergency or not. Great post!
