The Survival Kit Fixed Blade

When consideration is given to your options for a fixed blade in your survival kit, there is really only one clear choice. Since size and weight will be primary factors in building any type of survival kit, you will want to keep these to a minimum. The clear winner in this department will be the single edge razor blade.

With its small and relatively compact size, negligible weight and extreme sharpness, the single edge razor blade is an ideal choice to give you a cutting edge in your compact survival kit. They’re also flat...which is a good thing.

Single edge razor blades also make a great addition to your first aid kit.

Got survival kit fixed blade?

It's about the smallest and cheapest blade available...making it perfect for a small survival kit.

A razor blade can also be "the poor man's scalpel" when added to your first aid kit.

Thanks Sixbears.

I like Stanley ultility blades. You can get a 50 pack for about $10. They're sharp, last a long time and are still made in the USA!

Gerber EZ-Out is a decent folding contractor's bladed knife. I've never tried it, but I''m sure the handle ALONE (no blade) could be taken on an airplane carry on. Inexpensive pack of contractor's blade can be purchased at destination, and ditched / left behind on return. Inexpensive knife option.

Durn it, screwed up - Gerber EAB knife, not EZ-Out. Sorry.
