Things are going be a little hectic around the Riverwalker household as the process of gearing up for our mountain trip gets started. RW, Jr. and myself were checking some gear yesterday prior to the trip. It's important to get things lined up in advance as far as equipment goes. From our hiking boots to our walking sticks, first aid kits to survival kits and everything in between, it's a lot of stuff to check.
Since we're going to be a long way from home, we need to make sure our bases are covered when it comes to gearing up.
Staying above the water line!

Good boots are a major asset in the hills / mountains. Be sure and lace up your boot laces tighter when going down steep inclines. You can loosen them after the terrain gets back to normal.
My wife messed up her big toe really badly at Garner Park about 10 years ago (the area where bottom of the big loop coming down to pavement). She failed to do this and her feet slid forward with every step, mashing the nail badly enough to where she ended up permanently having the nail removed. Ouch.
Have a good weekend sir.

Great tip! Those slopes can be slippery! Foot injuries can not only be debilitating but painful as well. It's best to avoid them if possible.
Thanks anon!
