Smoker Barrel Safety Tips

Using a smoker barrel can be a great way to cook and smoke your food but should be done safely. Practicing a little safety and using some common sense will make it an enjoyable experience for the whole family.

Safety Tips for Your Ugly Drum Smoker (UDS)

1. Don’t store your barrel smoker while it is hot.

2. Always cook while your barrel smoker is on bricks, cement or other fire-resistant surface.

3. Don’t cook indoors with your barrel smoker. Never do this!

4. Don’t use your barrel smoker near combustible materials (i.e., propane, gasoline, etc.).

5. Don’t leave your smoker barrel unattended when it is being used to smoke food.

6. Always cook outside with your smoker barrel in a well ventilated area.

7. Exercise caution as there may be sharp metal edges present on your smoker barrel.

8. Your smoker barrel can get extremely hot. Keep a set of grill gloves handy.

9. Don’t allow young children to play around your smoker barrel.

10. Always make sure you cook your food completely. Eating meat that is improperly cooked can be dangerous to your health.

Always practice safety when using a barrel smoker.

Staying above the water line!

Excellent post!

I built the OBS MK1 Mod0 and it works like a champ. I did a small 12 lb turkey for Thanksgiving 2011. Came out good. I like it.

Thanks for putting this out there. I'd never have thought of doing this without your excellent post.
