Snake BootsIt doesn't matter if you are fixing fence or out hunting, you need to have the proper footwear. One of the best forms of personal protection is a good pair of snake boots. If you happen to live in an area where there are a lot of snakes, sooner or later you're going to meet up with a snake. Wandering through high grass and weeds or marching through puddles of standing water will create a need for a good pair of boots. You aren't going very far if you don't take the time to protect your feet!
The snake boots pictured above are RW, Jr.'s snake boots. He spends a lot time in the tall grass checking fences and are a "must have" to avoid the very real possibility of a snakebite from a cottonmouth or copperhead. While a good pair of snake boots are expensive, they can quite often be found on sale or at special prices. In any case, they are a lot cheaper than a trip to the ER if you get bit by a snake in the grass!

Good item - grass down here is pretty tall, and a pair of snake boots would be some piece of mind. What I hate about 'em is the heat though - man, I had a pair of snake pants that in July . . . man, they wore like iron, but . . . jeez.

Don't need a 12 gauge - .410 is plenty, and way lighter to carry. Better yet, a .22 will do.
ReplyDeleteI don't kill them unless they are near structures with people. Buzzworms are part of nature, no need to kill them just for the sake of it. Not meaning to sound like a 'prarie fairy' or anything.
Year's ago,when I was racing dirt bike's,I had a pair of riding boot's that were made of heavy plastic,darn near bulletproof.Had a great comfy foam lining,but nearly impossible to walk in!Maybe at a yard sale or goodwill,you could find a pair of motocross boot's.

Can anyone comment on which is better, lace up, rear zipper or side? I'm thinking the lace ups take too long to insert foot and tie up, but I may be wrong. The rear zipper seem to me to be the least trash gathering style, but I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteAlso, seen some legging styled snake proof calf high models called Snake Guards - about $60. Any comment on these? My cousin had those cheapo plastic ones years back - dang, they were LOUD mothers, you could hear brush scrapping them guys for a long ways.

ReplyDeleteThe side zipper work well for ease of taking off and putting on the boots. You might want to consider some of the special snake socks that are available to go with the snake boots.
