Canoes are a good thing because they stay above the water line.
The water in the pic is a little shallow for a canoe and has some really big rocks under the surface...not a good thing for a canoe.

it looked a little rocky... but the other nice thing about a canoe is you can portage or go "around the waterline" ;-)

They have canoe races at different times down the rivers in my area but it requires portage around quite a few dams along the way.
