Hah, bet the plans for that bench called out the bench lip overhang on one side, and the person doing the casting used it for the other. I've seen that happen sometimes, being an architectural draftsman for nearly 30 years now.

In actuality, I think it was supposed to go back to the building wall... but they must have run out of concrete blocks!

Being an amateur carpenter, I've made the mistake of cutting a board wrong several times...even when I measured twice!
