The Known Destination - Mountain Weather

Mountain Weather

As preparations for a trip to the mountains of New Mexico are now underway, one of my main planning elements is checking the weather. It's always good to have an idea of what kind of climate factors you may have to deal with when in the mountains. Preparation and planning are required if you want your outdoor activities to be safe and successful.

Current temperatures at my known destination:

Average high temp - 59 degrees

Average low temperature - 31 degrees

Looks like I'll need those wool socks!

Staying above the water line!

Is your NM trip going anywhere near the 4 Corners area (Farmington - Durango - Aztec)? If so, please look into taking a trip on the Durango - Silverton narrow gauge railroad trip. About 2 1/2 hours each way, it departs from Durango and goes into the moutains up to Silverton. Some BEAUTIFUL country there, made me want to go Sasquatch, if not a coupla days. The ruins at Mesa Verde as well are very interesting.

We're not going towards the four corners area but are considering a short day trip to other parts. RW, Jr. went on the railroad trip a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. My trip will take me through Roswell on the way up there.

Probably need to take my "tin foil hat" to survive any alien encounters!!!LOL

Thanks anon!

I don't live in South Central Texas for nothing. I've lived in areas with some regular snowfall and have decided to let others have it. There is some snow up at the higher elevations right now where I intend to go but will probably be able to avoid it.

One thing I don't plan to avoid is a couple of mountain streams and some fly fishing for trout!

Thanks One Fly!

Plenty of room in the mountains! Take a little time off and go!

Thanks.
