We would all like to consider ourselves great teachers because we feel our experience and knowledge can be of benefit to others. Unfortunately, sometimes gaining knowledge has to be accomplished by some very basic skills and one of those basic skills is reading.
Barter is sometimes a risky process and many people wonder what would make a safe and practical item for trade. Why not use books for barter? Books can make an excellent item for trade and barter. They can be used to acquire skills you may be lacking or simply to reinforce your current knowledge and skills. They can also be used for simple entertainment if the power is out and you have a little free time on your hands. They also pose little risk to yourselves or others when actively seeking to trade for something you may need.
So the next time you look at a book, you may want to give it a second glance and see all the possibilities that may be inside.
Got books for barter?

All good points made. One of my former coworkers used to say that he didn't have to remember it all, he just had to remember which book had the details and look it up. But do take the time to read AND APPLY the information, especially if very important. Practice makes perfect.
Very good post Riverwalker. Have a good day.
I also barter my books. I'm a member of http://barterquest.com. I don't spend my money on books anymore!
Great post RW. Books would be great to barter considering how most people would have no clue what to do. A book might not help them at that point but at least you could trade for something you could use!

Great point! As in all things it is the application of your knowledge and skills that will win the day. You might also want to take the time to write it down.
Thanks anon. Have a good day and a better one tomorrow!

It's great you're saving money at the same time. Yard and garage sales are also good sources for inexpensive books. My public library even has free books at different times of the year.
Thanks Robyn.

There are a few situations I wouldn't care to be in if I had to read an instruction manual at the last minute...always the possibility you may not have the extra time!
Thanks matthias! Glad to see your Prepper Podcast doing well also!

A friend brought my attention to this post, and I'll put a link to it at my blog in a day or so. It really is a great idea. One of these days we may not have computers, the Internet, or even radio to occupy our minds and our time, and we'll all wish we had more books, including instructional tomes.

Very true my friend! The power of the written word is best when saved as a hard copy. Educational and instructional books could very well wind up being priceless sources of information if electronic types of communication were to fail in a major way during a crisis or an emergency.
A link to this post would be most appreciated.
Thanks John!
