Summer Survival - Summer Creatures

Keeping Watch

Ants on the March

Bees in Trees

Lizard Eating Snake

Yellow Jacket

Now that summer is fast approaching, the creepy creatures are going to be out in numbers. If it can crawl, fly, or slither, it will be out there and they will get you if you aren't careful. Use a little care and caution when involved in outdoor activities. Bees, wasps, ants, and snakes can put a serious dent in your day if you're not careful. Just remember they sometimes will find you before you see them. So keep a good lookout!

Staying above the water line!

Gah, as one who is allergic to yellow jackets,(but not other kinds of bees and wasps) thanks for reminding me that I now have to start carrying my epi pen.

Last year, the reminder came in the form of having a wasp enter my helmet while doing 40 mph on my 4 wheeler. Talk about an emergency stop! Not funny but lucky it wasn't a yellow jacket!

Warm weather has a tendency to bring people outdoors more. Those pesky little critters will be out there as well. While enjoying the outdoors, we all need to remember to "bee" careful! Thanks.

Aside from the listed critter's,it's also a more active time for scorpion's and rattlesnake's,if you live in those area's.It's hot enough in AZ now for them to hide in shady area's,so if you have to stick you hand into a hole or under a rock, jam a stick in first.

If I need to move something that has been sitting for a while I always bang on it with a pipe with a planned escape avenue. When I pick up anything that has been sitting on the ground I always check it out carefully for fire ants.

If you have a vehicle that has been sitting for a while be careful when you open the fuel filler door. I took my pickup to the gas station once and found a wasp nest behind both filler doors. These were the big nasty wasps that like to build a paper nest inside an enclosure.

I go around in April and May and preemptively spray places that are likely to attract wasps and cause problems for people, like under the seats of swings, under the picnic table, and on the kids wooden play structures.

To Mayberry:
I used to work at GM,this time of year the snake's used to sun on the track. They never bothered to find the reason for a flat,as in rubbing they're hand thru the tire. They assumed it was a snake, just toss the tire,no matter how old it was.

Sticks work pretty good. Better they bite the stick instead of you.

I like your idea..."preemptively spray places" ....sounds like a good plan! Get them before they get you.

Got the ants but those nasty old lovebugs haven't showed up here yet....thank goodness. Those things cause quite a mess!

Seen a few more snakes this year. A little earlier than they usually show up. I've only killed one cottonmouth water mocassin so far this year and that one was enough.
