New Style Muzzle Brake Mounted on 10/22
New Style Muzzle BrakeI've finally gotten my new style Ruger 10/22 muzzle brake. Although the post office was a little slower getting it here than I originally estimated, it has finally arrived! Now all I have to do is test it out and see what happens. Hopefully, I'll have some good results to report. Since it didn't get here until after my days off, I'll have to wait a little while to test it out.

I'm excited to find out if this new style works as good as the old style. The new style is lighter and has a much sleeker look to it. If it performs as well as my old style one I will be definitely pleased.

The 10/22 is a great rifle,my favorite! Lots of goodie's for it on ebay,or thru midway.Just my experience,stay away from the butler creek 25 and 50 round clip's.Cheap plastic,wear out quick,and lot's of jam's. Wish I'd kept the website,but someone make's all metal hi cap clip's that adjust,wish I could try one,and they aren't that expensive,compared to replacing the butler junk.

The 10/22 is a great little rifle. My son-in-law was going to get one for my daughter but wouldn't buy the "pink" one they had in stock at Academy! This muzzle brake has me excited and I'm going to test it soon. Thanks.

Expensive as all get out ($75) but a reliable hi-cap magazine for your 10/22 is said to be out there. Even said to work with F.A. designed 10/22s - worth consideration anyway.

Butler Creek used to make a folding stock / carbon barrel kit for a compact rifle, called the Packer, iirc. I recently saw one such kit in Victoria Texas at Emmet Gun Post - its on the main drag in case anyone is interested.

I haven't had a problem with keeping mine on at all. It is a smooth fit, snug but not so tight you can't remove it by hand. I just snug the set screw lightly on mine...finger-tip pressure. I actually think the machining on mine is good enough that I could probably get by without the set screw but for safety purposes will use the set screw to hold it securely in place.
I think it is the tolerance on the machining that makes for a good fit that makes all the difference.
Sort of like the Tactical mags vs. Butler Creek...depends upon how well it's built or machined.

My old muzzle brake had over a hundred rounds run through it when testing it and had no problems with it working loose. Just as snug as when I first put it on.

Regarding the setscrew mounting,these are designed to slip over the front sight,made of some type of injected plastic it seem's.The recoil and any vibration on a 22 is low,so it won't shake loose really fast.Any good gunsmith could thread the barrel to take a threaded style if you'd prefer that.

Just for clarification purposes, this new style muzzle brake is similar to my old style in that it doesn't have a plastic insert and is all metal construction.
