Earlier models had a leather tab, pretty much same design but sturdier. I recently bought a Frost ERIC knife - same story, great knife, but sheath - meh. Aftermarkets are available, check out JRE sheaths, nice stuff!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-84980095140774091842012-11-08T07:15:14.458-06:002012-11-08T07:15:14.458-06:00To: Machinist

I also worry about the rubberized belt portion of the sheath and how it might hold up in the long run.

For the cost of this knife, I can deal with a few problems if necessary...like the sheath and the handle material. The quality of the blade goes a long way in making up for what it lacks.

Thanks anon.

RWriverwalkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01575212890278793911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-43252285752884016102012-11-08T07:02:58.110-06:002012-11-08T07:02:58.110-06:00To: Sixbears

Their only weakness (or used to be) was that plastic factory tube sheath, they broke soon after exposure to the sunlight.

A crack would develop, then knife handle was loose and you could lose the knife easier than before. Replacement with a leather or other sturdier synthetic sheath is recommended

But the blade - no flys on that one. The carbon laminated blades develop a patina, but that edge can be honed REAL sharp.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-9734194911764388292012-11-06T09:14:57.298-06:002012-11-06T09:14:57.298-06:00There's a lot to be said for a rugged, simple,...There's a lot to be said for a rugged, simple, well built knife of decent quality.
