Trouble does not call ahead and often an unloaded gun will be useless when desperately needed. I certainly agree that guns not under the owner's control should be locked up when untrained or irresponsible children (or adults) are about, but in my home I wear a loaded gun and there are loaded guns at several locations in my home. I think experience has shown that a locked up or unloaded gun takes too long to get into action in a home invasion.<br /><br />#9 is more reasonable if people don't know what they are doing but you do not have to be an expert to be able to repair or tune your guns, and this can make them easier to use accurately and more reliable. Knowing how to do this makes you better able to spot warning signs of trouble before it makes the gun unsafe or unreliable.
