As long as your weather conditions are fairly moderate, a decent size van will make a good BOV but for more extreme weather conditions you may need to seek a better alternative.

Thanks.

RWriverwalkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01575212890278793911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-88844192462863367522010-09-15T17:58:19.522-05:002010-09-15T17:58:19.522-05:00I like the idea of using a regular old 3/4 ton or ...I like the idea of using a regular old 3/4 ton or one ton cargo van that has been outfitted for extended travel. Include a place to sleep, a place to cook, and a place to use the bathroom. Then add in some food storage and communication setup and hit the road. It's a great set up for the more temperate parts of the US.Easy Van Larryhttp://easyvanliving.com/abouteasyvanlivingnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-89731658888733538432010-09-15T06:50:42.138-05:002010-09-15T06:50:42.138-05:00To: Lisa

Haven't seen any of those in my area but their are some surplus military vehicles around but probably wouldn't work for me. Even though I have a dedicated BOV it still needs to be multi-use and having one that is suitable for everyday use still needs to be factored into the mix.

If you stray too far from the ordinary, you may draw unwanted attention that even a paint job may not fix.

Thanks Lisa.

RWriverwalkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01575212890278793911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-74006266371600583052010-09-15T06:46:11.447-05:002010-09-15T06:46:11.447-05:00To: anonymous 7:46

Very few smaller vehicles can carry 8 persons AND their gear AND additional water food AND have a range of better than 500 miles on one tank of fuel. My van has served me well in this regards.

Thanks anon.

RWriverwalkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01575212890278793911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-36160925581668845742010-09-13T09:10:41.564-05:002010-09-13T09:10:41.564-05:00Nice post, we have a BOV complete with the license...Nice post, we have a BOV complete with the license plate that says "Bug Out". We used to have a van much like the one in the picture but in the winter it became useless. (we are up here in NH)
so this is what my husband found.
http://shmoopywood.blogspot.com/2010/08/ark.html
It doesn't really go unnoticed at this time as you can imagine but maybe a paint job will fix that?Lisahttp://shmoopywood.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4858350933853662775.post-27575042619280280632010-09-13T07:46:52.642-05:002010-09-13T07:46:52.642-05:00I big ole' 80's Surburban eats up gas like...I big ole' 80's Surburban eats up gas like crazy, but can carry a lot, especially if roof rack is loaded down with stuff as well. That or or a older model plumbers van with power nothing ('cept maybe A/C if you have kids or geriatics). Plain white, good tires and you are good to go.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
